Crazy, Curious Creatures

These Crazy, Curious Creatures lived quietly in my mind until they recently escaped onto the canvas—probably to make room for even more curious inhabitants.

Anyone Know What's going on?

Who is in Charge?

In many ways, I think they are relieved to have escaped from my mind. Perhaps it was becoming a little overcrowded in there.

They clearly planned their escape carefully, because they arrived dressed and groomed to look their very best. Their feathers, enormous eyes and brilliant colours appear especially bright and chic—they have certainly made an effort.

I love these birds. They are full of spirit, curiosity and questions, yet somehow remain remarkably self-assured.

The bird on the left looks rather tentative, keeping one eye on its surroundings and wondering whether it might retreat to the safety of my mind if everything goes wrong. Admittedly, it is probably interminably dull in there—rather like a never-ending desert whose only sign of life is the occasional tumbleweed rolling past.

Their colours and positions reveal their individual characters: one is timid, two have had their worlds turned upside down, the bird on the right is eager to join in and discover what is happening, and the apparent leader in the middle is becoming decidedly squashed.

I created this painting to make you smile, laugh and perhaps wonder who really is in charge.

Owls on a VIP Mission

Here are more of my friends: highly intelligent owls, living their best lives and each convinced that they are a celebrated sleuth.

Several appear to have modelled themselves on Inspector Clouseau. They are not necessarily investigating a murder; more often, the mystery is something far more mundane.

These crazy creatures currently live in my kitchen—a place where I frequently lose things. I may have misplaced a knife or the salt and find myself muttering, “Where on earth is it?”

I can almost hear the owls commenting, “She’s lost it again,” before launching into a lengthy debate about the item’s possible whereabouts. By the time they finally agree on where it might be, they turn around to discover that I have already found it.

There is a little disgruntled muttering, but eventually they settle down and resume their musings on far grander subjects.

I love these curious little creatures. They make me smile.
