Daisies appear beautifully simple and wonderfully approachable. Look more closely, however, and each flower reveals its intricate construction: a centre formed from tiny disc florets, surrounded by delicate ray florets that look like petals.
Throughout history, daisies have been celebrated for their fresh, unassuming elegance. They need no grandeur or embellishment; their charm lies in their simplicity.
In South Africa, the arrival of the seasonal rains transforms Namaqualand. Vast stretches of previously dry landscape become carpets of flowers, drawing visitors from around the world to witness the extraordinary display.
Daisies respond to light, opening towards the sun and closing as daylight fades. I love the thought of them following their own quiet daily rhythm.

Flowers in a Puddle
I discovered these tiny flowers growing in a shallow puddle in the mountains. I knelt beside them and studied them for a while. Surrounded by water and small stones, their delicate lives had clearly not begun without struggle.
Yet there they were—brave and victorious, lifting their heads towards the sun. In that tiny moment, they seemed to embody the resilience and courage we so often need in our own lives.
From the smallest seeds, these blooms had emerged to brighten the puddle for a brief but glorious time. Eventually they would fade and others would take their place, rising to adorn the water with new little crowns.
Within that one unremarkable puddle, an entire world existed: fragile, determined and quite extraordinary.
This painting celebrates the unexpected beauty that can appear in the most unlikely places—and the quiet strength required to bloom there.
