Les Bulbes - A Cirle of Close Friends
There was always the three of us married women, ‘G’, ‘J’ and me, we were calm, serene, almost Gatby’esque in our nonchalance and freedom, the tinkle of laughter and glasses hollowly ringing out in the dust of mauve and pink memories.
That is before the ‘HATCHING’ began. We met once a week, to Wine and share some lunch, whilst burping babies, ignorng toddlers, becoming more and more overwhelmed as the numbers grew.
Our weekly luncheons had become a fixed weekly date and beware anyone who tried to hijack our time. The husbands became well trained and affectionately called us ‘The Bulb Society’ as ‘potting’ was a slang term for enjoying a glass of wine!
La Société Des Bulbes - ACircle of Close Friends
La Société Du Bulbes
‘Ladies Who Lunch and Wine Together’
Amongst us there was a dash of rivalry, absolute love and lots of laughter.
You will notice in this painting, each of them has a ‘Potted Bulb’ at the base of the tablecloth each Bulb lining up with the competitor. ‘G’ is on the left with 1st Place, I am in the middle with 3rd place and ‘J’ is on the right in 2nd place. This proves to be a regular pattern although ‘G’ and ‘J’ do alternate.
The painting is intended to make you laugh and perhaps find some commonality in it. The titles of the Books on the shelf and the bottles of wine on the table lend humour.
Nothing is serious except friendship and love – and enjoying the time together.
With every new month, year, experience or another baby comes more love, more sharing and care. Deeper grows the bond.
Whispers of time and life stories moving as if the ‘Movie’ is on fast forward and suddenly there are small humans again.
The rivalry , the laughter and the love forever present.
How lucky we are.
Les Bubles en Concert
‘Ladies Who Play Together Wine Together’
‘J’ was always well known for being a consummate Violinist, she always and still does underplay her talents, she had many and we all knew it.
G ,proved to be a dark horse and suddenly appeared playing the Saxaphone with passable technical skills. Resulting in a harmony between the Saxephone one and the Violin. I on the other had had been given a triangle but without the small batton with which to make the triangle ‘Jingle’.
This really didn’t concern me at all, I drank the wine and provided comic interjections to keep the mood light and fun.
Again you will see the Potted Bulbes have made their way into the competition. Our positions are static, no change I am still in 3rd place. I am quite comfortable with thisand find it all very amusing.
More Books and Bottles of wine appear in this painting, the titles changed to suit the occasion.
Nothing is serious except friendship and love – and enjoying the time..
LesBulbes dans Le Cuisiner
‘Ladies Who Cook Together Drink Together’
The three Bulbes converge in the kitchen to cook up a storm. A task is decided amongst the group as to who will do what!
Chief Bulbe being ‘G’ gets to create the main dish. ‘J’ who is a league all of her own creates the most delicious Black Cherry and Brandy pudding. I on the other had get to make Melon Balls soaked in Vodka, it is presumed I will be safe with this dish as there is nothing to burn and who can have too much vodka.
You will notice, the Bulbes have brought their prize winning Bulbes with them. I think these plants firmly establish the pecking order.
Books on the Shelves add to the story as do the titles of the liquor.
The rivalry , the laughter and the love forever present.
How lucky we are.
Les Bulbes en Vacation
‘Ladies Who Beach and Wine Together’
Finally the Bulbes get to take a vacation day at the Beach.
It is a day of relaxation with a hint at effort, as complimentary outfits are worn for this grand occasion. This is the perfect platform for some healthy rivalry, so each in turn puts in some effort to look elegant, trendy even fashionable.
As is always the case when you make an effort to look nice, you feel great, powerful and ready for whatever the day may bring.
You will notice that ‘G’, the Bulbe on the left of the painting has brought with her a lovely red and white Parasol that stands proudly tall and straight. ‘J’ seen in the middle displays a parasol that is a little more reserved. It is closed but extremely elegant, where as mine on the right has decided to bend across the head of ‘J’ decidedly lacking in elegance or any sense of etiquette!
The potted Bulbes are not forgotten and brought along, to celebrate their ‘growing’ success.
I think this painting looks great on a verandah, or near a window with a beautiful view. The colours are bright and very happy.
The painting celebrates love, laughter and irreplaceable memories. How lucky we are.
